No. Even if you get rid of all the gas and oil smell it can only be in checked luggage. I guess they figure you could run it on vodka in a pinch. Or bash the pilot's door down with it.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I will locate a Makita dealer and see what’s available at what price and take some photos and specs. If I can find an echo dealer I’ll do the same. There is absolutely no used market here either I’ve had the wife go through the classifieds online and nothing is for sale. I’m in no big rush to buy as the logs are going nowhere because I ain’t moving them again!
This week I’ll take some photos of the pathetic stacks people have around here LOL! Nothing like the stuff on here or what I envision mine will look like. The area I live in Nagano is surrounded by mountains but everything is steep so probably not economical or practical to log. Actually I think Japan is 70% uninhabited mountains so the concreted dense cities are actually not a real impression of the place you get on tv. I don’t have a work area yet just logs stacked up at the back of the house. My wood was an opportunist thing not planned (free wood) so I’m very disorganized at the moment.
Japanman , take a closer look at the counter protector mat from your first post. Here's a zoom in I screen shot for you. It looks like they sell Makita saws where you snapped the pic of the ms250.
This is the chainsaw shop I went to. It’s a Stihl specialist dealer. There were a couple of Honda snowploughs and tillers on the showroom floor as well.
Not to clutter up this thread, but I would be looking at Echo really hard. As has been said, milling takes power/cc's. Echo is a Japanese company & makes some high quality saws & equipment. Great bang for the buck, at least here. I'm a Stihl guy btw, but have run some very impressive Echo saws & like them. With milling it's pretty much as big as you can get/afford.
You’re gonna have some fun, this was some good banter about saws, actually more fun than I’ve seen. I’m not very savvy when listening to engine mods and all that. But getting into a discussion where even Stihl is getting beat out by a staunch competitor, that’s a good one. And I’m a Stihl owner!
Thanks again for the replies. I doubt I’ll have time this week to venture out as I’ve got a lot to do this week. Everything takes a little longer when you aren’t in your own country and know where to find and solve everything that needs to be done living day to day.
That's the big echo that doesn't have the chain brake, right? Can you even get that in the US ? I think not because of the lack of a chain brake. Things may be different in Japan though..
