I’ve never even heard of larch. But that pic makes me feel warm! I’m stuck at the fire station this morning. We were out all night running wrecks on the highway, in the freezing drizzle. I’m chilled to the bone.

10F this AM. Just got back from running to town to see if I needed to remove snow from dads drive. Durn chilly! Guess I am not ready for this weather. Way below normal temps. Really beauty morning however with fresh white stuff and zero wind.
Stove is munching through a mixed bag of hardwood that I loaded 12 hours ago. Sure felt nice to come back indoors! Now where is my coffee and cookies:D

We've already hit our high for the day...about 36. Wind is starting to pick up and shift to the NNW at 15-20. Light mist / damp too. Overall not a good day to be outside.

Boiler is bored with the weather. Still only going through 3-4 4"x8"x18" sticks of poplar and soft maple per day.

16f this morning with the sun that was trying to peek out. Had enough snowfall that the plow came past and of course I already had the deck along with the sidewalk and driveway shoveled.

    Maybe around 4".

Didn't get much snow yesterday. A bit more overnight. Still some on the ground but will probably melt as 36 expected today and the sun is shinning. Ground not frozen yet either.

First off let me say thanks for what you do. I have the utmost respect for people in your line of work. Maybe you've heard of Tamarack? Kind of the same thing as Larch but named differently in other regions and are slightly different, namely in size if I remember correctly. Currently -5c/23f and burning spruce and lodgepole pine. I have a rare slow day today at work so Im going to head out in the bush and grab a standing dead lodgepole pine tree that recently blew over. I'm hoping it hasn't gone punky yet. I brought the saw in to warm it up a bit. Not sure that it will make much difference.

Thanks man. I appreciate that. I have heard of Tamarack. I have a friend in northern Idaho that burns Tamarack almost exclusively. He loves it. Stay warm buddy!

Raining about 40* with temps dropping to low of 20s for several days. Have cherry and a small split of oak going.

We're edging closer to burning full time. Few inches of snow and teens for lows with a bigger storm moving in early next week.

Spent the day in the 40s, but dropping now and the rain is getting pretty fluffy. :) Silver maple going in the box for the evening burn. We'll see how it does in the low 20s.

25F here now with a bit of snow falling. Nice & still out, beautiful night. Loaded the boiler with more Catalpa & a few Locust splits. Catalpa works as well or better than Pine to burn down coals. Gonna have to keep some on hand long term I think. Gonna go after another load Saturday weather permitting.

Cash, it's also known as tamarack. Deciduous conifer. You may have heard of that.
