Went out and worked a little wood this last week. Nice to get out as I haven't been is awhile. A few photos... First up, a load of oak logs. A friend had bought some storm damaged trees that an arborist had cleaned up and stacked. he needed some help on the last day getting them off the property. I ran up and helped him and he gave me this load of logs... Two days later, I went up and helped him buck up some oak he had sold and he had this load of oak that he had cut standing deal on another job he did. Some of it will be culled, but the majority of it is good and dry, ready to burn... Next day, went down to the almond orchard and got a part load of wood. Can't spend too much time down there with the way my hip is right now, so just do what I can. The pile in this pic is from two different days... Then this weekend, headed down to another friends who has eucalyptus trees that need to come down. Cut a few and got some of it loaded and brought home. The following photos is of the work done...
For a guy with a bad hip, you are getting a lot done. Looks like some productive hoarding. How does eucalyptus rate as firewood? Never had any around here. We used to get eucalyptus wood chips hauled all the way from California up to northern Oregon to make paper out of at the mill where I worked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the almond kicked my but. That pile is two seperate days and only about 3 hours each day. I'm by myself there and have to go slow. The logs were loaded on my dump trailer with a tractor, so no labor involved for me on those. The Euch I had another guy with me, so that helped. Only got a half load loaded that day, but has the other you see bucked up on the ground and ready to load. The euch is a great firewood. Right near the top on the BTU charts. Some people around here love it, some never heard of it. Most here like oak because that is what there is the most of and they have been burning it for years. I was told by an Ausie that there are over 200 species of Eucalyptus trees. When I used to live on the central coast of California, the euchs grow over 6' at the stump and are all along the train tracks. The reairoad planted them to eventually use as railroad ties, but as the story is told, planted the wrong species and were never cut. There are also groves of them down there in spots that have never been cut in maybe 80 years.

Some good looking stuff and work! Hats off for hoarding in pain! Know the feeling (back issues) Your eucalyptus bark reminds me of the sycamore around here.
Way to go bigfrank! That is some great firewood and it seems you are a great friend to others. My hat is off to you. btw, yes, working with a bad hip can get tedious. I've had 3 hip replacements so am well aware of the problems it causes. But, we carry on as best we can.
