    I see those in the swamps here too, nothing seems to eat them. Only color in Jan/Feb. No idea what they are though.

    Is it toxic or bitter, I've not seen birds or deer eat it?

    Bad for you and me to eat. Its supposed to be good for birds but I've never seen anything touch them. Even during the last gasps of winter most of the berries are still untouched.

    They always make me perk up when out Ruffed Grouse hunting but have never found any in their crops.

    FIFY. How can you tell ruffed growse excrement from that of a wild turkey or pheasant?:D
