i know it’s a maple. What kind is it.
It’s the only one this yellow around
Neither the War Department or I remember it this nice. It’s only 50 feet outside the house

Norway. Around here they are the last maple to drop leaves. Sugar, reds then the Norways. Not too many silver maples immediately around here so i cant rank it. All the sugars have dropped already around here. The first to go.
Split a few Norway rounds this afternoon.

    Silvers are early birds.
Thanks, been doing some research and I was leaning hard toward Norway.
You nailed it with the leaf timing. Even my Pin Oaks are more naked than this guy.

The picture at the top was last weekend. This pic is from today. You can see it’s the only game in town for foliage.

I agree Norway , they can have some huge leaves . Bark is similar to ash , vertical rows. They are non native invasive species and can out compete native trees . I believe out east ( NY , Vermont) it’s illegal to sell them .

If not, it should be. Like Henry Fonda said: "Burn it! Burn it all!"

Once the wind storm hits tonight, most leaves should be down.

Its now illegal in Connecticut too. Had to deliver a rootballed sugar maple for a friend in my PU and he told me about it. Couple weeks ago. I processed a big Norway the town cut down for him and he planted this tree to replace it.

Norway. Big leaves . I have a few in the back yard and all the leaves are a little more orange this year also full of the little round dots. Sap is white rather than clear.

The leaf density blocks light discouraging under story growth and the roots are extensive and will be right at the surface discouraging growth as well.
Can be awful to try to grow lawn under. Nurseries are not allowed to import them nor sell them here.

Even in the soft maples around here we had more yellow this year than normal. Usually they are more red.
