Had a big blow down stump(s) that had been on my list. I hate seeing trees in my wood that are not all nicely parallel (vertically) and I was in the area with the right machines to check it off my list. I cut the smaller maple off the stump a while ago, knowing the larger Hemlock would hold the stump in place that was all in one "root ball" although it was only about 12"-16" thick, it was a good 10+' tall. you can see how shallow the roots got into the gravely soil Chained the log to the excavator, the stump cut was just above eye level that stump had to have a 200 sq/ft "footprint" and boy did it go back down fast and blow a ton of air when it landed! I used some old hemlock logs to ease the slope in there for the excavator everything went well, still a worrisome job. I was there moving some rocks around, creating a wall of sorts to hold the fill to level a spot for my wood racks that was out of the way. Before; rocks, got plenty of em. after; Sorry for the long (rainy day) post. This was done last month but I just learned how to get my pics off the phone moved to the computer, I hate typing on the phone.

Toys, some guys like boats, big campers, fast cars, etc. I like land, lots of it and the toys to take care of, enjoy it and improve it not to mention I'm not getting any younger .
Fuelrod, I am envious of your line of machinery! A few years back a couple of kids were killed when they were playing in the "cave" and their dad was cutting wood and cut the log and the root ball fell back in. Terrible. Good job on being safe and man what nice equipment!
