I promised Backwoods Savage, TurboDiesel and a few others that i would post pictures of Dad and myself's holiday 6 months ago however i have been so busy i never seemed to get around to it. any way i finally had some time to make a start on sorting trough the 1800+ photos that we took so here we go. Melbourne Airport and a pic of an Airbus A380. Not the plane we flew on I decided i wanted to fly on a Boeing 787 Dream-liner so we flew United airlines. A dream-liner at LAX. Climbing after takeoff, north east of Melbourne. Somewhere over the Pacific ocean. The 787 Dream-liner is a beautiful aircraft to travel in.
18 Hours later sunrise above the clouds as we descended towards California. Landing at LAX We spent the next couple of hours standing in a queue waiting to clear customs then a long walk across the airport to terminal 7 where after passing trough TSA security we had a nice pizza then boarderd a 737 and flew to O'hare Chicago. When we arrived in Chicago we took a cab to the hotel, checked in then took a walk up the street to by a sim card for my phone and a deep dish pizza. had a couple of slices then fell asleep, exhausted after being awake for more than 30 hours.
We awoke the next morning to find that our hotel was below a flight-path for one of O'hare's runways and right next to a very busy freeway. We took an Uber cab in to the city and checked out the Navy pier, and lake Michigan.
The record holder for sure on the longest and likely most interesting trip to a Firewood Hoarders gathering! I see you saw the Marina Towers in Chicago which is famous for another classic chase scene with Steve McQueen. They drove a car out of the Marina Towers into the river below...
We spent the next few hours walking around Chicago taking in the sights all the while dragging all our baggage with us. Dad wanted to see the intersection where they filmed the police car pile up for the blue brothers movie so with the help of google and the GPS on my iPhone and more walking we found it although the buildings have changed a lot since the movie was made. In the afternoon we got a Uber to pick us up and take us out to Glendale Heights where we picked up the RV, and keeping with the blues brothers theme we got Sean our Uber driver to take us down trough the lower wacker drive where the majority of the Blues brothers police chase was filmed. Sean was a absolute top bloke we spent the next 3/4 hour laughing and joking with him all the way out to the RV pickup. Sean your a bloody legend mate!
I had an interesting afternoon learning how to drive on the right side of the road in rush hour Chicago traffic, paying tolls with a new currency all while severely jet lagged and worn out from walking around the city all morning. We left Chicago, drove trough the top of Indiana and camped the night at the Michigan welcome centre at New Buffalo. We awoke the next morning to find ourselves neighbours with a few big rigs. We drove to Kalamazoo where we visited a Meijer and aldi stores to stock the RV with food and of course the all important Beer! we then drove up to Hickory corners to visit the Gilmore car museum that one of our great members (i think it was Cole) told me about. Thank you Sir.(Mate) Check out the Duzies.
Some absolutely beautiful and amazing vehicles. We left Gilmores and drove to Lansing then up to Dennis's Backwoods Savage, We stopped around the corner to take a picture of his neighbours barn. When we arrived at Dennis and Judy's we were welcomed first by Tim and Ruger then Eric, Becky, Walt, Kevin, Julie and of course, Dennis and Judy. And the rest of the gang who were already there.
