Probably my favorite is when I walked into the back of an auto repair shop a guy asked me what time it was I turned my wrist to look at my watch not realizing I was holding an open can of pop and poured pop all over the floor ! that got a few chuckles.
I have the EXACT splitter that Ralphie Boy has and for quite awhile, I struggled to figure out which way is ON. The dadgum icons are NOT intuitive! I could come up with better icons, including OFF/ON. I actually don't think the choke icons you see on this machine and other small engines are intuitive. OFF/ON, again, would work just fine.
Happens to everyone. I was close to returning my new mower last spring because it only ran for about a minute the first time out. Turning the fuel valve fixed it. My blower kept dying two days ago when I shut the choke off. Finally realized I was turning the choke ON.
Ms. buZZsaw and I were cleaning up leaves yesterday. She was using the handheld leaf blower (new Echo this year) Running it for a while. Tries to start it several times and nothing. Shes getting mad. I walk over and try, nothing. Starts on one pull once warmed up. She forgot to turn in "ON". Thought of this thread!
I have done the same thing several times with my Dirty Hands splitter. Don't know which Kohler motor you have but mine is the 8 or 9 HP. I finally took a white paint pen and labeled my Gas ON/OFF and Choke ON/OFF in easy to see letters. Certainly helps!
We lost power this morning after a 3" overnight snow with temperatures in the teens. I rolled out of bed and rolled the generator outside, shut off the mains and plugged in. It started right up after I figured out the cryptic choke and gas petcock icons... I hate those things, every time I run this thing I keep saying I'm gonna magic marker "on" and "off" on the dang things, but never do...
I won't have to do that shortly, I talked the Dragon Lady into letting the moths out of her wallet and we are putting in a standby unit in a couple of weeks! Gary
Don’t feel bad. It’s a tricky setup. I had trouble remembering which way is on and off on both those levers because they’re not marked. Finally occurred to me to be in run position they have to be tucked in towards the engine so a log won’t fall on them LOL So gas is on tucked in. Choke is out to get it started. And you think your losing it? Welcome to my mind.
Gas in the chain oil reservoir, chain oil in the gas reservoir... twice. Did not run either time. I could go on and on and on and on and on...
Left the oil cap off or loose on the saw one time. Never put a chain on backwards but did put a old chain back on instead of the new one. Gary
A couple weeks ago at work I went looking for a certain truck, after being given the truck number I took off in another truck to go find it. Upon returning without finding it I discovered that the truck I was looking for was the one that was parked right next to the one I took to go look for it. I even almost took the truck I was looking for to go find it. Sometimes your brain gets fixated on a certain thing or a certain aspect of a thing and you overlook simple things. Another time I was driving down the road, felt my pocket and realized my keys weren't in it, for a few seconds I wondered where I had left them. The only way to avoid mistakes is to not do anything
