Not very many maples on my plate so I’m wondering what flavor this is? The brown in the center isn’t nearly as dark in person.
jo191145 im saying sugar maple based on bark texture and dried leaves all around. If the tree was bare when they felled it then it is a sugar. First of the maples to lose their leaves in the Fall around here and the most colorful IMO...nice orange.
I'm saying Sugar Maple. I had to drop several here that were dying and too close to the house. I had them all cabled off and ready to pull down with the tractor, but still was puckerin' when I dropped them.
Well sugar would be better than silver for sure. All I really know is it lost most of its leaves midsummer. Had dead branches falling in the road. Mother wanted it down for liability, town won’t do it and I wasn’t risking it. Big enough to take out the garage if I messed up. Mom would rather chip than burn so she called in the pros. The main part of the trunk is solid. Higher up there’s rot holes from old missing branches.
No sugar or silver maple here so I'm not faniliar with either. Aren't sugar maple leaves rather large, like Norway maple leaves ? and red and silver leaves small ?
sounds like typical sugar to me. Looks like a lot of old growth sugars in Wallingford in town roadside. Silver usually has a distinct spalting that doesnt show on your tree.
old growth? This ones the little baby LOL. Big mama is just off to the side. Daddy passed away 30 years ago. That had to be a 4’ foot stump. Don’t pay much attention but it’s probably still there somewhat. This lot had the first house in the area. 1760 + or - Burnt down about twenty years ago.
