Hmm, I probably have 2.5-3 cords of BL. These stacks, and some mixed into other stacks. I'd have more but I gave some away. IMG_20191025_34362.jpg IMG_20191025_45553.jpg IMG_20191025_55493.jpg

Sweet score, PLUS its black locust which I personally would way rather take than honey locust at this point only because I can't seem to get HL to dry out in bigger splits. I have some that's now been through two summers still reading inside splits at 30+% moisture, some even 35%. It gets one more summer and then I'm burning it either way! Other thing that drives me a little nuts with HL is the borers that get into it when it's in the stacks and they trash it with saw dust/powder that cakes up and makes a mess inside.

Ok enough complaining. Great score!!!:smoke:

Ive been wondering about that Joe. I remember when you scored that. Do you think those were part of a log deck just like the one on route 2 in Marlborough? Seems they were staged that way when you got them...at least the nice long logs.

Yeah they werent supposed to be taken is what I figure. The father wanted them I guess. But the son put the ad on FB “Take all wood free“ and included pics of that stack of BL. I’m guessing the dad never thought anyone could get them out of that tall stack between two trees :) He May not be familiar with this site.
Some construction workers told me this when I went back the next day for another load and the stack was gone. He left a few crooked split logs for me ;)

Have to try in my fireplace, mix it up with some red oak. Not sure if I will smell much while it’s in a fireplace?

I say it depends on how good the draft is. I’ve smelled wood up in rooms in my parents house where there is a fireplace so it’s good to mask a smell a bit. Worst wood I’ve smelled burning was horse chestnut, not pleasant. That’s one wood hard to mask smells.

The price i found was for a linear foot of the stock. So $84 for a 12' piece.

Did you give some to Walsh for using his splitter or did you two share that score back when you left the GTG? Lots of locust in that one from what i remember.

We shared some in Aug 2018, I was running on empty towards the end of that score, and he came and cut a Bronco load. IMG_20180913_4298.jpg IMG_20180913_20122.jpg This May, the locust we got was all cut into rounds, and he helped hike it over to my driveway in the Bronco, did some splitting, and left the splitter here all summer. So,a good deal for both of us. It's nice having someone local that will share a score, which are usually more than I want to handle alone.
