I've been slackin bad, over the last few years. We don't burn 24/7 and still have plenty of wood. But, it's time I get down in the woods again on snow. Could stack 3-4 cords in the shed... and maybe lose some lard off'n me azz too...
In the interest of total disclosure.....I have bought firewood before myself. But I didn't inhale any of the smoke!
We bought wood from his best friends FIL two yrs ago this up coming spring and we have also bought loads of logs. This year he he starting to tackle where they will be putting in a 2nd gas line. Once they start working on that, they will be dropping the trees. Stacking them, doing all the clean up and putting in food plot. All we will have to do is buck, split, and stack. Oh we have already gotten paid for the wood also. Chaz is estimating a 10 yr supply, most of it ash.
It must be that eastern accent, no? With my back and legs all best to hell, I have to take it easy on how much I do. 99lbs laid down the law and pretty much said "no more scrounging in the woods for firewood....just buy it. I don't need you getting laid up again."
An old Navy buddy from the Zuni tribe used to greet me with "Yah Ta Hey" Every time I hear it in one of John Wayne's old westerns, I am reminded of him.
Zero shame in that, I am in bad shape for next year because all I usually get my hands on is Oak. Am on the prowl for good score of Maple so I can have it ready to burn for next year and may eventually turn to buying a cord.
More oak in the pile than I thought. (Im not complaining) Some not the moisture % that I like, so getting stacked for down the road.
My family and I have bought logs many times over the years. For several years my father had a connection for trees, and we sold 80 or so cords a year. Once, we had a gray haired old man show up to buy a cord, and he was reluctant because he would have to sneak it by his father, who would never stand for buying wood. I wonder how old that guy must have been. Anyway, this thread just made me think of it.
