What tools do you have that are old and you will never give up? What are the stories behind those tools? This should be a fun thread!
I’ll start the ball rolling! Today I ripped my old wrench holder. I have had this for going on 25 years and it shows but I refuse to give it up The story is that back when Cummins truckload was still around I bought this pouch with a full set of combination wrenches right out of the truck for $10. They would show up at random locations set up tables and sell the tools right out of the truck for huge discount prices. It was kind of like harbor freight but mobile and would show up once a year. I have had this pouch through many jobs and home uses. From flipping cars to being a mechanic, truck driving back to wrenching again and more. This pouch will be around after me if I have my way.
I’m not sure where grandpa got this 1/2 ratchet from but when he passed I was givin it and it has seen some hard use. This is another that I will keep forever. It is worn well and takes a beating but mostly it has grandpas story and well worn feel to it. I took it apart to clean out the gears and grease it and discovered he had done it and well. It didn’t even need my touch. It’s a crescent LS75 I couldn’t find much on it but that’s ok it’s the history that matters to me. It is permanently in the tool drawer with the others and is the usual go to.
This is a tough one all my tools are old, except the battery stuff, and I do not normally part with tools. I have given a few to people on here that I thought would appreciate them more than me sitting in a drawer. I honestly have Proto offset wrench set that has not been out of the drawer in easily 20 years, they are my aircraft set and I have another set I use regularly. I also have probably 3-4 sets of everything in my shop now because I do not do much outside work anymore. I will have to go look and see if I have any thing interesting.
Hmm, is a chainsaw a tool (I consider them firewood tools)? Oldest I currently have is paps ‘59 Pioneer. Hand tools is a different story. I have a few old sockets from him but I have no ideas on age.
I inherited most of my grandfathers tools. A lot of them are no longer in use today. What car still has points? In fact I have a snap on timing gunBut that’s not even that old
This is a good point! Yup bad joke of the day right there. There still worth keeping that’s for sure. You never know when a mid life crisis and a 35 year old rust bucket will show up. This guy is guilty of old rust buckets. Vehicles are a tool to me and the cheaper the better
I like the older tools also and have an easy time accumulating them. Crescent wrench like the following image....also, monkey wrenches here and there. Now, you can add to these misc hand tools fixtures from old gas stations. No pumps and the old tire changer "mysteriously" disappeared but outdoor light fixtures, old signs, a couple of the old oil pumps (working) with their fill bottles. I had an old working coke machine (promised) but the owners forgot and sold it for a Benjamin. 10 cents a bottle and even had a couple cases of the bottles! very similar to this fixture
