I’m going to be burning a lot of walnut this season thanks to a buddy who let me have one that was taken down on his property. This’ll be my first time burning walnut. What’s the hoarders’ opinion on burning it?
Burning some right now, because all my shoulder wood is at the in-laws farm. getting a little hot by the stove. I like it, hand splits easy, burns nice, as good of BTU’s as I’ve got. Oh yah... don’t forget it’s highly valuable!!
Walnut is about the same as cherry, great middle of the road firewood.......don't take that negatively, I burn my fair share of both.
I ran into a couple of rounds I didn’t know what they were until I split them. Enjoyed the smell haha but nothing crazy but super heavy. I think I may have a little bit in my stacks but hardly much more than a couple splits. Keeps the fire going fine, good enough for me.
I personally love the stuff, cause I somehow seem to usually get a good load every couple of years....... dries fairly fast, smells good, and good shoulder season wood...
Surprisingly, a lot of what I find free is walnut. I have a couple stacks that I'll start burning next year sometime. There's still a couple scores a little ways from me that I need to get to working on. But, at the moment, I'm still working on storm damaged oak on my own place. My wife's a weirdo and enjoys splitting wood by hand for extra exercise when she doesn't get to the gym. She likes splitting walnut more than the knotty oak I've been giving her recently.
