I've always thought pine was not good to burn indoors, but recently, a firewood merchant in the area told me that it's ok if it's well seasoned and very dry. I burn it in my wood stove in my barn that just has a straight insulated pipe out the roof.
Evergreen firewood is all some people have to burn. They do quite well with it. Eastern white pine is a bit of a lightweight BTU-wise but like just about any wood - season it correctly and it will heat your home .
Yes, welcome to FHC EZTundra77 !! I like pine, it seasons quickly and heats up the house even quicker.
I burn 4 cords of it a year to heat my house. I don't think my house has burned down yet. I could be wrong though.
I don’t like burning pine simply because it’s a mess to process; all that pitch/sap makes for sticky gloves! However, I do like burning Hemlock in my outside firepit. No sap. It dries so fast. It’s nice for shoulder season too. But I generally burn hardwoods in the wood stove because if I’m going to go through the same exact steps to process the wood, I would rather gets more btus per piece. I love pine cuz it saves my hardwood. My house is still standing too. As a matter of fact im burning a few pine logs rt now
My only problem with pine for my stove is that I don’t have as much as I used t0, lol. On most climates it’s nice and dry in 6 months of summer drying. It’s awesome
Pine is great! Always available free here because of the myth that it will burn your house down. Love it for shoulder season, and burning down coals when it's cold. Got some pine burning right now in fact - 75 inside and family is warm and happy. Best part is that people hate it so much around here that it was delivered bucked to length for exactly $0. Got enough yet to process that will last a few years, and just had another 24' trailer load dropped off yesterday.
I had this problem too but someone here mentioned that leaving it out for the winter, the bark peels off and resin goes away during the spring. I’ve done the whole thing with pine being fresh and all, sticky as it comes. But ways around it if you can wait it out. I do not mind pine at all for firewood. I love using it outside so I can see people’s faces as the flames burn bright and hot.
Very well said and my exact philosophy! Pine is fine as long as dry. Welcome to the FHC EZTundra77 . Glad to have you join us!
I burn Lodgepole pine and dont find it sticky in any way although it could be because I dont have to process live pine. With the exception of a bit of birch from time to time all my firewood is soft woods including pine, spruce, doug fir and larch. None of it is sticky for me. Pine does burn hot but process it like any other wood and it will serve you just fine. Welcome to to FHC EZTundra77
I burn quite a bit when it’s not too cold; generally it doesn’t burn quite as long as hardwood so I don’t end up overheating the house. Like BigPapi, I find it’s easy to find people giving it away
Thank you all. Happy to be here. I started a business building privacy fence and tree work 3 years ago.. I had stockpiled rounds until this year when I split for the first time. 3 bush cords of hardwood and 3 bush cords of pine. The pine burns well in the barn. I know fire wood isnt the most profitable venture, but I enjoy it and it's a by-product of my work so I might well use it.
DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!! DO NOT BURN!!! Just send it all this way for proper disposal... ...in my stove.
