Hey guys I was looking to get a backup limping saw and my dad told me I could have his if I wanted it. I have a domar 6400 right now for a main saw I really like I have had it since feb and have about 7 cords through it cuts great not to bad to handle as far as weight but if I did a lot of limping something smaller may be nice. Would the 257 fit the bill or is that saw just as heavy with less horse? Is the 257 a pro model it's not an xp? I wouldn't mind having another dolmar to be honest with you guys I really like the 6400.
My dad quit burning wood about 5 years ago so the saw just sets he bought a Harmon coal stove works like a pellet stove but burns crushed coal.
The 257 lists at 12lbs. I think it's built on the same chassis as the old popular 262XP but with a straight open port cylinder instead. I also believe it's power band is in the low to mid rpm range which should make it a great choice for limbing. Slap a 16" bar on it and enjoy a good free limbing saw. Somebody with better knowledge will be along to correct me if I'm wrong!
Likes Dolmar, wants a new limbing saw. Too bad you missed HoneyFuzz's 350 he sold a few weeks ago. How about a Dolmar 420/421? Wouldn't that go well with your 6400?
Cant add much more that that !!! I have had a Husky 257 . Great classic firewood saw . Has a mild power band . Its not an XP....but for me it is still pro quality built . Just doesnt have the "zip" ! For me personally..its too heavy to be a limber . As mentioned...the Little Dolmars are fantastic . I sold my Dolmar 350 a couple weeks ago...and it was a sweetheart . I think Im going to save for the 421 now . Great zippy power...easy to handle..reasonable priced !! If it where me.........Id snag the 257 just to take out and enjoy every once in a while . Great dependable saw !!
