I've been processing a lot of yard bird ash. While the ash is better BTU wood, it's stringy and would be a pita without a hydraulic splitter. The last silver maple I processed was a yard bird too. It split so much easier than any of the ash I've been dealing with.

I'm not complaining one bit though.:)

Yeah, seems like the Red is a bit more dense. But that didn't stop me from grabbing this pile I saw whilst driving..couple trailer loads, guaranteed dry wood for my SIL's for next year.

I've never had silver maple split like that. Those splits look more like sweet gum.

I have to ask, is the “evaporator” like OWB that “evaporates” wood or are you making syrup or something?

wishlist makes lots of maple syrup. I think you know what the evaporator does.

I grab it when it comes along. Dries fast and burns well.

You have a better plan on the table now?
    ....
    Yes
Sharpen the chains, fuel up & get-r-done.

Delivered a half cord to a customer today. 2/3 of it was silver maple. I cut this from a green blow down after the May 2018 tornado. CSS soon there after. VERY light weight now. The wood was a big lower limb from a huge yard tree. Maybe 14" diameter? It split easily.
It was a neighbor and the last time i took SM on purpose.
