I talked with the owner of the forest next to the farm. Logging commences the first of November and likely to go for two months. The loading yard will be about twenty yards from my property line. I anticipate the mother of all cut off piles, with no traveling! our deer season is likely altered dramatically, but I think I can develop a five year plan. Might even get into some commercial selling in a year or so.
Sounds great. You cant beat convenience with wood scores! I know from experience. If youve got the time and theyve got the wood, nothing wrong with selling wood. As MikeInMa stated, get some before pics. We like pics
It is an oak, hickory, and maple stand. A mix on dead or dying ash. Not sure where I might even take an decent before photos. It would just be photos of tall trees. It is a managed forest, but I think they are going to hit this section pretty hard. I think after the logging is done, the owner is suing the County government over their targeting timber harvest operations and making doing business difficult.
That is terrible that they want to log during deer season. Around here, for the most part we get them to stop. We had a problem with the tree trimmers on the electric lines 2 years in a row but lots of us got hold of the electric company and got it stopped.
They aren’t permitted to l9g certain summer months due to nesting of the Indiana bat, which is endangered. Apparently they nest in trees. Loggers have to hit it had when they can.
Sounds like you neighbor has a lot of trees coming down... might be more than you can take? Good problem to have. I have 5 years plus and starting to think I need to slow down. Might need a good excuse for a big woodshed?
