Maple Tree I.D.

    Well now its 2020/2021 firewood but I'm curious if I can get a positive i.d. on this. I was kinda leaning towards black maple??

    Based on the bark and leaves looks like red maple to me. At least very similar to the couple I have in my yard.

    Not red maple!! Looks more like Tulip poplar to me..
    All maples have 5 points. Hard maple are U shaped between points and smooth edges.. Soft are more V shaped and red maple the edge of leaf is serated like a knife blade..

    Poplar was my first guess the day I went to take a look so I thought I'd avoid it. When I went back to cut I decided it was some type of maple so I took it down and grabbed a load. :picard:

    Don't feel bad. Dries fast great this time of year when you want a little heat but not to open every window and door..

    It not tulip poplar. Bark, leaves or wood speak of it. Heart wood is green, bark doesn't peel off, leaf is different, It is a type of maple, maybe Norway...we only have soft maple down here, but plenty of tulip...this is a load of tulip poplar logs.

    This is what the red maple looks like in my yard. Pic pulled from wikipedia acer rubrum. pretty similar to the leaves shown in the pictures above and to me the bark looks a lot like red maple.

    Red maple or poplar.....either way it's good shoulder wood!

    its definitely nothing like an eastern maple leaf.

    I'd say northern.. Cause Virginia is kinda east coast;)
