Any idea what type of wood this is??

I told my wife I was going out for milk and came back with a car load of wood. I just got a fireplace insert last year and hunting wood is a lot of fun. Electric company cut a tree near my house and the owner put out a free wood sign. Rounds were really heavy. Luckily I always have my Fiskser in the trunk to half the rounds. Is this white oak? Ha! I love the picture of all the wood in your back seat. Gotta love scroungin' wood!

Doesn't look like white oak to me, but I don't know what it is.

Well there’s a winner for today’s Car Hoarding Thread! As for the wood I’m not an id specialist so hold for that status update.

Looks like Norway maple to me. Couple pieces (one shorty) with orange edged bark at the cut look like sassafras. You also need to post this in the "car hoarding thread" rob osage . It'd make a few members proud. Great score BTW! Fresh split white oak will smell like whiskey.
Welcome to the FHC if i hadnt done so already.:handshake:
Dont feel bad, most of us on here need therapy or are in therapy already! :loco: :wacky:

Looks like my wife's class. She teaches special ed pre-school for Boone County, Kentucky Public Schools.

It ain't white oak I second the maple. Norway maple is almost as good as sugar maple.

    Nice score!

I see nothing wrong with this, except that you need a pick up or at least a trailer.

I see what buZZsaw BRAD sees and it looks like Norway maple to me.

I agree, w mostly Norway maple. I similarly car hoarded (on leather seats) over a cord of this stuff from a neighbor’s house. Yours looks a lot fresher than mine though. That’s good for the BTU if you get it split and stacked soon, but hopefully you already have some stacked for this season, because it will probably take another season to dry out.

    Nice score!

Nice haul. I didn’t see any wood on the passenger seat. That’s just irrational. :)

Loading rounds rt on the leather seats is classic, car hoarding thread should certainly love that one. Ya you need a pickup. Those blocks look huge in that trunk.

The milk has to fit somewhere or he’s in trouble... I’m speaking from experience.

I’d say the wife is in the 7 stages of grief- right now she’s at “anger,” highlighted by the writing of U R Sick on that beautiful half-round. Don’t worry, this will pass and she will eventually come to “Acceptance.” Then, you’re golden!

Be sure to save that one half-round for next winter when she says how freezing cold she is one day- and magically have it appear on the kitchen counter. And then do a mic-drop. Fantastic pic of the loaded back seat. Hoard on! :dancer:

Nice score, looks like it might be tulip. I’d remove that classroom picture ASAP, that could really upset someone to see their child posted without permission and cause problems for your wife...
