Whilst traveling about the area, I spied this sign. My nephew was kind enough to pull over for me. I'm guessing that 80 pieces is about 1/12 a cord.
I saw a similar thing while visiting family in Florida last Christmas. Being as that area doesn't call for big firewood use I believe they are selling just for fire pits and the occasional fireplace burn. Definitely more money to be made that way, and when you consider a lot of people by the convenience store bundle for six or seven bucks they feel like they are getting a bargain.
If its hardwood, that's not too bad of a price for small amounts. Around here its $300-350 a cord seasoned. Smaller amounts like 1/4 cord would be $100 each
Did nephew buy you any after all you are his favorite uncle, right? My cord count is +/- 800 splits so it would be 1/10 cord for me. Splits looked to be about the same size as mine.
Had a guy approach me in the yard the other day looking to buy 5 or 6 pieces for his fire pit. "I usually by the bundled firewood from the grocery store" he exclaimed proudly. He was a neighbor so I gave him a large wheel barrow load for next to nothing.
It is amazing that some folks can make a lot of money selling in small amounts. But there are few who have the location to be able to do this. If I were in the right location, I'd probably try to sell some but for sure not try to gouge anyone, at least not too much.
