So I'm at my cousins house for the weekend and I'm sitting out on the from porch at 6am, no one else is up so I figure I'll enjoy my morning outside. There is a little bake shop/ restaurant across the street and they are cooking bacon! But they don't open till 7:hair:. So Ive been siting here for 45 minutes smelling bacon and wanting coffee. But on the plus side the quiet morning has been peaceful and beautiful.

My favorite memory of camping is the smell of coffee and bacon.

Waiting on everyone else to wake up, I did go get some coffee. The rest of the crew likes to sleep in.

It's surprising to think the folks at the bake shop obviously don't know you're one of the moderators of the Firewood Hoarders Club forum... what is this world coming too? ;)

A quiet calm morning prolly made it bearable anyway. :fire:

Burgers over Black Cherry on the grill tonight, either chicken breasts or baby back ribs on the smoker for Monday.Havent decided yet. Probably go with chicken since I had ribs 2 weeks ago.

I like to eat bacon every month or two. We eat it for dinner cause we dont make breakfast in this house....I usually end up eating 3/4 of a pound of it...the precooked weight that is.

Some I am sure will say this is terrible for me but I bet I dont do this more than 4-5 times a year at most if that much!! Can't be that bad.

    LoL.... :) That's funny.

I love bacon, but I have to stay away. You can't have just one piece ;)

Look at all the old folks you know...how many of them started mourning off with bacon and eggs. I dont buy into the food kills idea. Its lifestyle more than anything. My grandad lived in his 80s and his biggest problem was lungs from a lifetime as a smoker and the cotton mill(air born fibers). Grandmother lived into her mid 80s and cancer took her out..had heart issues but a spot on her lungs got her...non smoker though..but did have stomach or intestin e cancer 20 years earlier or so.

I believe if you live a more active life and exercise you mostly will be ok. Most of us here I think fall into that category.

The type kids now a days that dont want a yard dont fix anything sink work outside or do manual labor for any reason yet have to buy a gym membership just to get the slightest inkling of activity in life live the more distant type life than our ancestors lived. This is the reason they watch what they eat so much and have to spend so muchtime in the gym. YYou know the type..they complain about work and look at the things we do and get tired when they try to work side by side with you.

It isn't the fat that is proven to be bad. It is the additives in some of it that gets you. but at that rate, I wouldn't be concerned.

I haven't set foot in a gym since I was 16,started working in the woods at 17 1/2,heavy commercial construction since early 20's.Am finally getting tired now, hoping the next 8 -10 years go by smoothly, want to retire then before body is totally wrecked.

I eat pretty much whatever I want, same stuff as when younger just smaller portions + added healthy stuff & drink lots of water too.Even though I love good beer & fresh brewed ice tea, none of that nasty light beer or instant tea for me.....:cool:Main thing that helped me is quitting smoking cold turkey almost 19 years ago.If I still smoked no way could I be as active in my normal daily routine.

And I will be the first to admit...a guy like you thistle could out work me I bet. You construction guys or physical labor keep that strength and endurance.

I have close to 8 years mostly in a truck or office now...I dont do as much stuff as I use to so I am not as in shape as I use to be. But I by no means am super lazy either.

It kills me the people that pay to have yard work done and than pay for a gym membership. Probably don't know what's in half the "healthy" stuff they eat and wouldn't want to get their hands dirty in a garden.
