We were in and out of the quarry in an hour and 20 mins. He’s always been an animal with physical labor, this nice size white oak was no match for us, he skinned the top with the little echo and i gave the 576 a good workout. Not quite the whole tree in the truck, got some top left to go. Im watching football for a while and i know ill get the itch to split some later.
Nice stuff too. I don’t see how you couldn’t be motivated by rounds like that to split later. Good to get a halftime break and chop a few!
I love it! My dad was always a physical worker. Air Force mechanic, GM plant worker, ran a farm for a pharmaceutical company and a surveyor. Turns out that the chemicals he used at that farm were basically agent orange and he started with dementia in his late forties/early fifties. He made it to 68. He's been gone a few years and I still have thoughts to call him. Enjoy every day you have with your dad, you never know when they'll leave you. Sorry for the sappy reply. Bonus story- I found one of dad's notebooks from when he was a surveyor. That high school dropout was doing trigonometry freehand with a slide-rule while his cohorts were using high dollar calculators. Sent from my LML212VL using Tapatalk
That same quote came into my head about a week ago. I even told the wife about it and she had never heard it. I'm sure it's the same anyway. Dad always answered my "what if" questions with "don't worry about the mule going blind, just load the wagon." Edited to clarify. Sent from my LML212VL using Tapatalk
I kept asking him if hes ok and he just kept goin, its his third time out with me the last week and a half. He fishes in summer and builds rods in the winter so hes happy to be gettin some exercise.
By the way, that's a nice tree! It's straight and it does not seem to have much that will give you trouble splitting. That felling cut looks well executed too. Nice work all 'round!
Great teamwork Woodwhore . Gotta love fresh cut white oak (my favorite). Take time to stop and smell the rounds and appreciate dad. Been nine years since my dad passed at 87. If you dont mind my asking, how old is he? Now that you mention it, gonna go split some sugar maple before supper.
Great day with your dad. Like others, my parents (both) left in '11 and I still miss them on a nearly daily basis. My Dad probably woulda had himself a great time in the woods with saw n tractor. Edit.. Much gooder now.
I hope to be like your dad when I get a little older. Of course my mind says it wants to do one thing and my body back talks and says “no”.
