When I picked up a saw for Guido in Hartville last week there were two Homelite weed whackers as part of the deal he did not want. Said I could have them if I wanted them. I took a good look at them the last couple days and for starters, they both had cracked fuel lines and primer bulbs. Zama H31C and Walbro WT220 carbs that both probably need rebuilt before I can see if they will run. Both had good ignition though. I told my 14 year old daughter that I was giving one to her for her 8th grade "middle school" graduation present. Going to start putting her to work! Thanks Guido!
Boog, that's one impressive garage/workbench layout you have... Hope your daughter appreciates her present...
Let's see, at 58 that's about 40 years of stuff with no where to put it! Oh, and the Breyer's ice cream is essential!
Looks like a guy who likes to spend time in his garage... What's the Wesson oil and Breyers ice cream for....? damm high resolution cameras.....
The Wesson was some outdated stuff from the pantry the other day, not canola though, was debating what I was going to do with it, default is pour in the used oil township recycling tank. The end of the Breyer's was just dessert. Nikon D7000, good lens, reduced to about 24% to upload.
I have old vegetable oil in my garage too. Not sure what to do with it, but maybe a good campfire starter aid... Like your garage organization...
Especially if cut with a little gas I bet. Would probably do real good on brush piles too. I use the "dynamic multiple stacking" technique of organization.
Hope they work out for you. I had a couple of Homelite trimmers back in the late '80's and '90's. One was a ST-385, I think the other may have been a ST-185. I have a Stihl FS 55R trimmer I can bring to the GTG if someone wants to buy it.
That square shrouded unit should be a pretty good runner. You can still get parts for them and they are cheap/easy to rebuild the entire motor.
That ones an HBC-18 Classic, 30CC. It has the Zama H31C carb. Sounds good, I'll work on that one first. That's the one I was leaning towards too with the curved shaft. I have a big old straight shaft FS65 that still works!
I really don't care for curved shaft trimmers. I edge quite a bit and the ability to spin the thing 90 deg and cut clean edges along the driveway and sidewalks is valuable to me. Way too hard to do that with a curved shaft. Plus they do not reach under overhangs and shrubs like a straight will do. There is a real trimmer for sale here in the FHC Classifieds.
I got around to rebuilding the ZAMA carb today and went to install it on the curved shaft model on the left, the one I was going to rebuild first. Only had one problem though, it didn't fit! Turned out I screwed up and mixed up the carbs on the bench, it fit the newer straight shaft one on the right .............. Oh well! I put that one together with a short piece of new fuel line and presto, it was up and running. A little carb re-tuning and its running sweet! Thanks again Guido!
