Ctwoodtick "Steve" and myself have been wanting to meet up since May to go cutting. We had planned to meet up at my honey hole score during the Summer (see my thread This Score Could be Epic!) (The birch was reserved for him.) Well, life and schedules got in the way and even though we're an hour apart it never happened and the honey hole was taken. Over the course of our conversations, he mentioned his roof leaked so being a roofer by trade i offered to fix it. Saturday, we killed two birds with one visit. Fixed the roof and after an afternoon of chatting, meeting his wife & dogs, checking out his woodpiles (the kielbasa and homemade pierogies were DELICIOUS!) etc. we made the way to his CL score. HUGE oak blow down half hour away. Between size, a leaner, lots of rocks, electric fence and horse manure, we overcame and cut some. He had gone and cut some prior when he procured the score. A bit pressed for time so limited what we could cut. Steve limbing the behemoth trunk. Load of sections in Steves truck. The load from my PU. He thought i was going to take it but have more than enough wood. We were a bit pressed for time so it limited what we could cut. Notice Steve's hoard in back! All in all a great time. Looking forward to finding a score "halfway" between us and going cutting!
An terrific day indeed. Brad was the first person I met from the forum. He couldn’t have been nicer and I’m pretty sure one of my dogs would have left to go home with him if it gave him the green light. It was great seeing how he goes about wood cutting and I learned a lot from him. Not only that but I scored a couple excellent homemade wedges from brad that I couldn’t stop calling “doorstops”. I left the day very thankful for that wood that brad graciously gave to me, but mostly grateful to have met his acquaintance.
I forgot about the doorstops! That was funny when i was cutting and you asked to use one and i said to myself, what is he talking about? Never realized they look like a doorstop! My homemade "kerf keepers" as i call them. Simply a wedge cut from a 2x4. Ill make a bunch at once.
Sounds like a great productive day for the two of you. It's always nice to hear stories like this from people on the forum.
Nice job fellas! I've been around this joint for a while now & started meeting some of the folks in person. I've made some of my closest friends through FHC. Great to see it happening in so many different areas. Great community here for sure.
Great to see you guys gtg for what we love do. The meeting and hanging out with fellow members is the best part of this club, sharing food and swapping lies... er, I mean true stories.
Yep, it's great to meet other members, especially if a little woodcutting is involved. Glad you two got together. I remember when we were coming home from Dennis's GTG in Michigan this past May, we stopped to see The Ark Encounter and Creation Museum, through a post about it, found out Brandon Scott was only 10 miles away. Rode over and met him and saw his place. Great fellow.
Good to see you get out and play. Ct is gonna be a busy place, well already is. If you guys find a log score you want moved give a holler. That’s always fun.
It is great you two could meet and do some work together. If at all possible, I would highly suggest both of you take in a get-together as soon as possible. It is an experience you will never forget. Even this weekend many of us will be meeting down in Ohio for another gtg and I personally really look forward to meeting up with many friends I've made over the years thanks to the get-togethers. One of these days perhaps I should make a list of all the wonderful people I've met and made friends with through wood cutting. btw, this will be the third gtg this year; one at our place in May; one in northern MI a couple weeks ago and now in Ohio with some old friends. It is a good time for all so please if you have not gone to one, see if you possibly can go next year.
