I know its maple but is it that really hard rock maple. Iv taken a couple those down with asplundh and it burned hot if I remember correctly. Its only 10 mins next town over. The guy told me to get back to him tomorrow cuz he had a guy that wanted it but he worked it for a very short time and hasnt been back in 2 days.
Rock maple is another name for sugar maple. Lots of noodling in your future if you're going for that! I wonder how many maple taps are buried in it.
Our first home we tore the carpet out of the dining room? Exposed a beautiful tho marred wood floor. Hired a guy to sand it he called it rock maple. Stunning floor when he got done,,,
Oh really i didnt know that, i have burned quite a bit of it, two trees in Nashua, real big and old. Thank you. Ya, im not a big fan of noodling, i will split it a couple of times with the maul. I have hit alot of metal in trees tho. I gotta get back to him tomorrow. We’ll see
As Midwinter said, Rock/Sugar Maple, same thing. Splits like a dream, dries fast and burns hot. Right up there with White Oak & Hickory in my book. If you get it, try cutting half way through, stop, drive a couple wedges into the saw kerf, then drive a wedge or two into the end about inline with where you stopped the cut. If all goes well, it will pop right off and you don't need to noodle it. If it doesn't go well, you may be cursing me for half and hour or so.
Bark looks right hard maple leaves are u shaped between 5 points and edges are smooth. Sugar Maple is well worth it..
Yup thats rock maple, aka as sugar maple. Good luck with that behemoth if you go for it. Great technique as RabbleRouser stated. Noodle half way then maul or wedge to finish. Keep us posted. Has the quarry honey hole ended Woodwhore?
Quarry is not even close, iv got alot of trees i can take there. I didnt go today, i had to get the little man but i did have time to go to another spot and get red pine. I just finished splitting, got about an hour and a half in.
