So it was kinda funny. The guy that had the wood is on 80 acres. He's having a bunch of clearing done for fire prevention purposes. I met him and he showed me where the wood was. The easy pickin's had already been taken but he showed me what was left of the pine. It was on a pretty steep hillside but was at least downhill to get the wood down. Anyways, on the way down, there was a bunch of oak right on the side of the road. I asked if it was spoken for and he said nope it's up for grabs. I thought about for about .0001 seconds and said, "I think I'll start with the oak."
Wow, it all even looks like its consistant sized at a normal length too! Every CL add I see usually has the wood bucked into 8" sections.
Those back east may not realize what a score this is. Black oak is black gold out here. Always grab the good stuff first, there's always more pine & cedar. Especially now that the insurance companies are dictating that you must nearly clear your lot.
Or its trash someone thinks they'll get some poor fool to take away as "firewood ".... Its crazy the crap I'll see on CL for "firewood ".... (twigs, slash, and fence posts to name a few popular items)....
Gotta wade through a whole lotta debris to find the treasure sometimes. Lately I’m getting a kick out the outrageous prices some people think it’s worth. One guys trying to sell 8’ oak logs 12-16” diameter for $100 a pop. And that’s in a state with massive die off occuring. That’s more than black walnut for heavens sakes.
