Just think back to when rottiman got his current fur friend. So Glad he was again receptive of making room for a new friend. As I recall, the home he came from was similar to what you had for concerns. That dog ended up with an owner as dedicated to him as the dog is to the owner.

Thanks Larry,...... yes, she has come a long way. Unbeknownst to us she came here in the midst of Lyme Disease. After two rounds of treatment we were lucky to have caught it just in time. She has blossomed into quite a dog as the wife has guided her into becoming a first class scent detection dog as well as a solid obedience and agility dog as well. She has brought both of us many, many hours and days of sheer enjoyment and devotion. Somehow, all of this obviously meant to be.:thumbs:

Poor Blondie is coughing her brains out. Years ago the doc said the odd but frequent cough was likely an allergen, made sense since it started when we moved here. Last week it got worse and she started to drink a lot and pee alot, doc said not sure, restrict water because it could be phychogenic, (like OCD from what I understood), and rx'd cough suppressants, and her blood work showed an unknown infection somewhere so antibiotics too. Poor thing is not getting better though the cough suppressassants seem helpful, she's exhausted with coughing and no sleep.

    Edit,

Talked to vet this morning, not good news. Do you recall the gastro problems a year ago? Well she still has that and has been chugging along but it's worse now, she's leaking from her intestines, very low protein in her blood and fluids backing up in her lungs.

    :handshake:

Thank you and Midwinter ! Vet added prednisone and a mild sedative (I have both on hand, Blackie's thunder anxiety pills and my personal back up prednisone), she seems a lot more comfortable! Just cannot see her suffer, you all know exactly what I mean.

When you have pets, sometime you have to make those hard decisions and it is never easy.

Ya know, there are times we think that if it were not for "no luck" we wouldn't have "any luck".
Sorry you are having so many struggles. Keep saying your prayers and be keenly aware of your limitations.

Well, Dixie dog ended up as a 3 legged dog since saturday. She appears to have hyper-extended her LF shoulder. The biggest issue is trying to keep her quiet and moving slowly. Better today but being the thick-headed, stubborn (Lab/Rott) she is, everything has to be done at Mach 1. Never a dull moment.............

I feel you pain. Our late Max tore his ACL. Many$$$ spent on surgery, it was near impossible to calm him down so he wouldn't undue the surgery. Had to let up on the pain meds to slow him down. Only could take him out on a leash.
dogs limp around only until they see another dog, cat or squirrel, then it is instant bullet speed. I sometimes question if they were blindfolded, would that help. Good luck with Dixie's recovery. (and your's while you deal with it!)

Blondie's fighting and coming around :) Up to a few hours at a time between coughing fits and the fits are of less duration. ATTA GIRL!
