I was on the clock so 12 hour day. Mostly on the road. Got great pizza afterwards and stayed over in Grafton. We are adding on to his Daughters house and have been doing renovations there the last couple years. Wouldve rather been hoarding wood personally, but money makes life a little easier than firewood. How many btu's in a bundle of dollar bills?:makeitrain"Not that id try that!

Got my oak all split! It arrived 9/1. The wood under the green tarp is not part of it. That is waiting for a pickup. IMG_20190926_23243.jpg
The driveway is by no means it's final resting place. It will end up here, where the old oak vault was. What's under the rubber will have to be redistributed somehow, it's all dry stuff ready to burn. IMG_20190926_31652.jpg
Mwalsh9152's splitter can move on down the road now. Having it only encourages me to hoard beyond my capacity to store it all. Besides it's time to take the canopy down and start tightening up for winter.

Wow, you've been busy! That was quick work Molly.

I'm planning to swing by tomorrow. Either morning or afternoon. Not sure yet. I'll let you know.

I'll be here in the AM and early PM, but if I get the call to go hoarding, off I go!

Well sorry for missing your milestone post Molly finishing all the oak. Look like a nice pile of BTU's to have in the bank!

I guess moving the wood to your backyard will keep you busy from hoarding if that's your thing (and we all know its not) haha! If that pile was in my driveway I would not want to move it (lazy I guess) so I would feature it. Decorate it for Fall with pumpkins mums and and corn stalks.
Come Christmas season string blinking lights all over it, hang a wreath on it and call it a day :wreath::santa:
    I know ...genius! Don't mention it:tip:

Quick question, but these 2x4’s I scrounged, are the burnable? I pick them up to rack the Norwegian maple as I split it, so no biggie if I can’t, but just curious if you can tell by the stamp if the chemicals would be bad to burn.

Photo not uploading for some reason. But the most distinguishable character is a “2” maybe followed by an “0-1” triangle “EE” i’ll Try the photo again later.

EE is usually eased edge which is just the edge radius .

It would be nice if all treated wood had the incise marks on it whether the incising method was used to treat it or not eh ?

The circle is western wood products
the 7Q or the 2 is the sawmill
kdht is kiln dried , ht is usually heat treated
    1/4EE is the edge radius
    the triangle is douglas fir

douglas fir usually has incisor bites in it because d fir doesn't take the copper goop well

I'd assume without the incisor marks and originating on the west coast it's clean

I think what you have is redbud. Bark and heart shaped leaves says so. Dogwood has rough square shaped bark. I had to cut a redbud first of Sept. It is very heavy for it's size. That in the wheelbarrow looks like redbud too. Dogwood is almost all white, pinkish tint.

I was second guessing the bark texture.. I think you are right, redbud. Still not bad btu, but not dogwood.

This weekend I took on what I think is a “nightmare elm on my street.” Which wasn’t really a nightmare, especially with my helper marking the cut marks for me with some chalk. Just a branch that the homeowner was more than happy to have me remove.
My son had been asking to see the saw in action for a while and has been fighting naptime with his 5th birthday coming up. I had had him stand a ways back and cover his ears in lime of sight. He told me he liked loud thing afterwards. And helped me move the few rounds in his weight class into the trunk.

It split a lot easier than some of the Norwegian uglies I’m dealing with, although I could see it being an issue at bigger diameter. Twisty grain. It’s stacked to the left down there.

Cute boy! I love the chalk marks, great way to help!
But, that doesn't look like any elm I've ever had. I don't have a theory about what it might be.
    *Edit*
    Maybe cherry?

I did some hoarding this weekend. I met Chris aka Woodwhore out at the old quarry he is clearing. It's a big job, but he is up to the task- he used to cut for Asplundh. He has a deadline of Wednesday, when the excavator arrives, I hope he makes it! He has a day job as well. Anyway, he had his truck filled with sweet black birch, and he loaded me up at the top of the access road, so I didn't have to risk scraping the bottom of my car. It fit perfectly. IMG_20190928_56962.jpg IMG_20190928_4305.jpg
Then Saturday afternoon, my husband and I drove out to Winchester. We hit the pickle festival... IMG_20190928_47291.jpg IMG_20190928_0941.jpg IMG_20190928_41554.jpg And picked up a token load at WeldrDave's land. IMG_20190928_57581.jpg
Two fun hoarding events in one day, it doesn't get much better!
