For the money you should own them Dave. Never too late to start a vintage collection. No powerhouses there but something to play with.
I had helped a friend of my wife's, and was offered a chance to take what I wanted from her dad's stuff, who's house was being sold. Among other things, I ended up with a Homelite saw. 33cc, I believe. It started right up for me. Nice little saw. Glad to have it as 4th on my saw depth chart. It does seem to leak bar oil, as it puddles in the plastic storage box it has. Not a big deal. I leave it empty.
I'm up to my @$$ now in crap! I have 7 Stihl's, I wouldn't know what to do with them... Although I will say "my very first" saw was a Homelite XL with a 16" bar on it. My Father had this old P.O.S. Sears Craftsman with an 18" bar, it flooded out all the time, it had a push button oiler on the side, it ran when it wanted and I remember it had a "barracuda" chain on it. It was a piece of $#!T!!! That's when I bought my Homelite for $50.00 at a yard sale. It ran like a raped ape for several years until one day it went "bang" Piston broke, then it went into the trash! Bought my first Stihl 021, 1988 after that, "and still have it"!!!
I have an old XL bought with another saw as a package deal. I’ve never tried to start it. One of these days I might give it a try. Also have some old craftsman don’t even know who made it, looks homelite but never checked into it. All I know is they weigh as much as my dolmar 7900 and probably no where near as powerful or fast.
WeldrDave my father had a old mini Mac or eager beaver. I might have been 5 and cut more wood with a rusty old hand saw. That was truly useless junk. Traded it with someone for a riding lawnmower. Don’t know who got the better deal, the mower wasn’t much either.
I'm 99.8% sure this was the old piece of $#!T my father had! Somebody, "maybe on here" said Pioneer may have made them for Sears. I have no clue. But your right, the thing weighed as much as a small car.
My father had that exact saw. I have it now. Made by Roper. Here is a video, not mine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
