    Well i finally used the 261 for the first time today. Ive been considering trading it in for the Mtronic since thats what i wanted and it was supposed to be when i scored it off ebay two months ago. Called my Stihl dealer today and the guy there told me a lot of them come in and need to be reset with chip issues. I dont want issues of any sort so i said screw it, ill stick with old technology.
    I get to my score, go to gas it up and only had enough gas for 1/3 tank maybe. I keep a 1.5 litre bottle of gas mix in my tool box and hadnt refilled it yesterday. Ran it for about 15 minutes until it ran out. Brand new Carlton full chisel chain. Came with a semi chisel Stihl chain. Used the 20" bar from the 290.
    It was good for me!:smoke::smoke::smoke:

    I guess it was good for you too! IMG_0906.JPG
    290 & 261 tag teamed the score!

    buZZsaw BRAD Bout time you sunk that saw in some wood. Get some mix and give it a good workout next time. Think you will grow to like it.

    Yep,, ‘bout time!! :saw: Never understood people who want a new toy for so long can finally get it and then not play with it immediately. :loco: :crazy: Glad you’re finally getting a chance to run it. I don’t know stihls very well at all, the 290 is bigger right? What cc is the engine in each?

    290 is 56cc and 261 is 50cc. 290 considered a farm/ranch saw. The 261 is a pro model saw. My 460 is a 77cc also a pro saw.
    Dont feel bad, i dont know Husky at all! I have a Husky 334T arborists saw. Seldom use it, but very handy when i do.

    In all seriousness, hope ya like the new saw. I would choose a standard carb model any day. :yes:

    I think its a habit i get from my mother. She would get something nice and new (usually as a gift) and wouldnt use it right away or use it at all. :loco: :crazy: is right!
    I was debating on the Mtronic (which i think you asked me about when i posted the thread after i got the saw.) or carb version.
    I have trouble making decisions. I drive myself crazy with it sometimes!

    Thank you sir. Im not a Husky guy. Nothing against them or any other brand. Ive had very good luck with Stihl since my first in 1985. 261 is the fourth new one ive owned. The 460 was bought used. Guess im brand loyal.
    Ill keep the thread updated as i use it more.

    Took the 261 to my roadside score today and cut all of it with less than a tank of gas. 15" DBH red maple. All logs bucked on site. Liking the saw a lot. I think it will be kept in the PU for "emergency" roadside scores. Seems ideal for bucking & limbing a felled tree if it has to be carried and moved a lot. The 290 was left home. We came, we sawed, we conquered! Stihl MS261! :saw:

    Yep 261 will out run a 290 productivity wise any day. More revs & lighter to sling. GET IT PORTED!

    Hopefully there’s some water in the falls.
    There’s an outdoor party at the Dublin tomorrow right off the lake. Starts at three. I’ll send you my number. If you want to go I’ll buy you a beer or two.
