Well, damm, a bunch of BS... after the rain the sun came out, clouds were gone and it actually went back up to 60 degrees... So I opted out of starting a fire and the stove remains clean and cold.... It was 35 when I got up this morning but its supposed to be in the low 70s the rest of the week, and 80 plus for the weekend...
I'll admit that it felt nice to work on the property I do most of my cutting, it seems like it had been two years since I was back there. I didn't get to check what I call the two ravines, the bigger of the two has a big basswood across it which didn't help when we had to turn the sleds around in 24 inches of fresh snow last year.
91 yesterday and today. 88 tomorrow with possible rain. Got the rest of the wood here at the house cut and/or split over the past two days. Down to stacking.
41° this morning. Supposed to be mid to upper 30s tonight! First lighting of the stove happening tonight I’m thinking.
Maybe I should be visiting?! I'll take the rum and you can have the coffee. 52 at night is wonderful sleeping weather. We do keep one window open in the bedroom on those nights. Sadly, we did not have too many of those last week. Last night 54 and the night before was 55.
This morning was 40 frost away from lake.. Shut all but master bedroom windows.. No fire yet but stove is ready
Fireplace will go tonight. Still have to finish the chimney and backer board on the wood stove in upcoming weeks. Frost advisory is up!
Just wondering, since it is a new stove, have you had any fires in it yet? From my understanding, and gang correct me if I am wrong please, but you should do a small fire as soon as you can so it cures. It will stink so if it is nice out you can open the house up to get rid of the stink.
It was long pants day here today. Not liking it. Forecast was for 69ºF but that isn't happening. House inside is still warm though.
Welcome to the club. Lots of great folks on here sharing knowledge and humor. Hope all goes well with the new stove. Might need to build a small fire while you can still open the windows. The first one is usually pretty bad smelling.
got so damp 70% in the house broke out the de-humidfiers main floor down to about 56% after 3 days basement still in the mid 60% range. you all in Western Wi . can keep the rain over there i sure do not need any more.
I think that It is cast iron stoves that call for an actual break-in fire(s)...a steel stove can generally be just fired normally...a fire to cure the paint before its too cold out to open the windows is a good idea though! Sometimes that new high temp paint can leave quite a haze in the house...they claim it wont hurt you, but I don't trust 'em, and it sure stinks anyways!
Hey I’m not one to succumb to peer pressure (does anyone believe that?) You’ve convinced me- I got a quick little jammer going to cure the paint and break the stove in while I can keep the windows open... lol but I still think I had plenty of time to get to this. Still have the fan in the window haha.
