I went out to the shed yesterday and dumped all my gas in every saw. Then started them and ran them till they quit. As I dug through some articles on line, I saw a fella put "rubbing alcohol" in his tanks, shook it around and dumped it out, kept the cap off and let it all evaporate when he stored "anything" for any length of time. I'm gonna poke more into this just to see if anyone else practices this...
Yup! As I said a while back, who's right? what's right? I live right on the ocean, "reasonably close". I know this older fella than me that has been an outboard mechanic for about 96 years! ... No, he has been working on OMC Johnson and Evinrudes since the early 70's and when they store an outboard for the winter, they pull the gas line and fog it in the carbs with fogging oil and let it run dry. He said in all the years of doing this, he's only seen "Very very few" with carburetor issues! When I spoke to him about my saw, he asked me if I left gas in it and I told him yes for about a year. Then he called me a dumb @$$ and I got what I deserved! He is a nice guy though... we've got that relationship thing of icy cold things.
I have several (OK, many) gas stations near me that sell e-free gas. I buy it for my mowers, log splitter and any other equipment that uses straight gas. Not taking any chances, and all of it starts right up after being left for any length of time. For my 2-stroke equipment, I either buy Tru-Fuel premix or VP Racing premix, and I haven't had a single problem with any of my equipment in several years of running the canned premix. That $94 carb job will buy a 5-gallon can of premix and you'll never have to worry about your engines again. It's e-free gas, oil and stabilizer built right in. I will never go back to mixing my own gas, it's worth every cent to buy canned fuel.
lol i guess i go through more than you then and refuse to pay almost 100 for vp i just spent 18 bucks yesterday for 5 gallon of 90 e free gas if i ran the vp id spend over 500 a year for fuel and i cant see that
having trouble finding Efree fuel? - go to local airport planes are not allowed E free- hmmmmm- go figure.
No such thing here in "Hell" as E-free! Can't get it, won't never happen! Jon_E, this is the first time "ever" that this is happened. I see your point though, I'm starting to understand my old friends theory about running them dry! Every outboard place does this practice. I did it for years, just forgot this time. I won't again!
When I get my 91 octane e-free I pump a couple gallons in the truck first as I'm guessing last person used the cheap gas and could have some in the hoses yet. When I'm only pumping 1.8 gallon for the saws I don't need a quarter of it to have ethanol in it.
