Hadn't had a chance to post these pics, so thought I'd share. The two lone pallets of cherry (and a mix of oak and ash) were stacked recently - got the wood from a neighbor who had the trees dropped by a line crew. The newer stacks in the other photos were cut this past fall and stacked by November - a mix of red maple, white birch, and a little bit of yellow birch (but not much). I wasn't too happy with this years haul - I go through about 11 pallets of wood/year, and only stacked 8. Always shooting to replace what I burn, but not this time. I have a line on a good number of trees from my neighbors that he wants dropped to help his view of a mountain. Hope to get on that in the fall. From what I've seen, I think I should be able to clear at least 6-8 cord from his property - mainly red oak, white ash, red maple, and a little white pine and hemlock. Cheers!

Thanks - it's been tough for the past two years to get a good amount of red oak - I try to have 3 cord ready per year, but I haven't been able to get more that 3 cord in the past two years. I have about 9 cord left of red oak, so will be good to get some put up soon! Cheers!

The only Oak we have (1/3 of a cord, White & Red) came from my only scrounge, it should be ready for 2015-16.

Because of the wet weather this year, all the firewood suppliers are behind, looks like some people will be burning not so seasoned wood. The guy up the road is getting his wood deliver at the end of June for this heating season.

Enjoy that oak on the cold nights. That too bad for the folks that are getting their wood so late - hope they get all red maple - won't be great, but better than most! Cheers!

It always seems counterintuitive to me that it's harder to find free firewood in rural areas than in the city, but it makes sense from a supply and demand perspective. In the city everyone has access to relatively cheap natural gas, so there just aren't very many households burning wood for heat. At this time of year there's free wood all over the place, but the tradeoff is that my wood storage area is small so I can't accumulate a huge hoard no matter how great the opportunity. There's ash available to the north today. Oak to the east. Maple to the west. Cherry just down the block. And here am I, with space for only about half a face cord before I have to start piling it on top of the furniture.

Very, very nice splits and stacks.. I would be proud of the nice job you did on them. :)

What exactly is the black covering? I want to find some rubber membrane roofing tear off, but no luck yet.

I agree, the wood stacked on pallets looks really good. Do you ever have any problems with the stacks leaning after the wood starts to dry??
