Playing with the new Simington grinder. I’ve watched the videos but still pretty much clueless.
Dall, if you see this, please chime in.

The first attempts weren’t too encouraging.
The wheel was much too thick.
I dressed it down with the angles the previous owner had the dressers set at.
Trying to figure out how to grind without getting into the tie straps.
I’m out of adjustment for lowering.
Try not to laugh at the results. Grinding on an old round ground chain.
    Still into the tie strap.
Can I dress the wheel some more to get a thinner cut?
Salmon wheel was on the grinder when I bought it. One of the guys at Madsens said that is a good wheel type to learn on.
Goal is just to get a decent fire wood cutting chain.
Surprised how fast this thing removes material off the chain.

do yourself a favor and get a digital angle finder
the wheel needs dressed there should be a nice sharp corner where the 2 angles meet
when you are grinding you want the corner of the wheel to meet up with the outside corner of the cutter
consistency and practice is the keys

Toward the back and as low as it will go.
How much more should I dress the wheel?

Get a digital angle finder like Dallas mentioned. I thin my wheel more than most so I can roll the cutter down more without hitting the tie straps. If I zero the gauge on the wheel, I try to roll the tooth down to 30°. Seems to stay sharp longer

    Will get an angle finder.
Thanks for the pics Dall. Obviously a lot to learn here.
I tried another old chain I had and converted it from square grind.
Ended up with quite a beak on one side and a bunch of material in the gullet. A couple of taps with the round grinder cleaned out the gullets.
Was all trial and adjustments so I don’t think any two teeth ended up the same but surprisingly it seemed to cut decently when I tried it out. May not hold an edge for long, but worth a try.
At least if wasn’t making all sawdust like some of my round grounds end up doing.
Is anybody doing .325 with one of these? Is there much change in adjustments required to do so?

Looks like the top plate is not hit? Maybe it's just the lighting. I think the wheel needs to be at a steeper angle or chain tilted more

Never mind I looked at a different pic of yours, it was the camera angle and shade. Bottom of top plate is hit

325 is shorter than the 3/8 heightwise from the bar to cutter so you have to lower the arm some so you dont get into the tie straps
i havent played with mine enough to have pictures or a setting i use
