Picked up this wood just curious if anybody knows what it is. Guy said he had it stacked for over a year. I was thinking maple? Really easy to split has some weight to it.
Yep, cherry. Black cherry really. Good stuff, not the highest BTU wood but it dries quickly, and smells great.
The shed is 10x12 front posts are 9ft heigh back post at 6ft. Should hold I would think at least 4 cords stacked 6.5ft heigh.
im with everyone for cherry. Did you split by hand or with a splitter? For a year old round im surprised the bark stayed on! Nice looking work on the shed 1985ew
As everyone has said, black cherry. Some people love it due to its fragrance. I sell cherry for more than oak due to this.
If the tree is cut when still live, that bark should stay on for several years. I found some cherry I cut about 3 years ago back in the woods recently and it looks like it had just been cut. Nice.
Most folks like cherry and we do too. However, it is not a good wood for overnight burns. Great during the day and, of course, spring and fall burning. As for the scent when burning, I don't understand why people are so excited about it. Smells just like smoke to me. But I do like the smell when you are cutting it.
It'll hold more than 4 cords all right, even if stacked only 6.5' tall. That's a beautiful shed, and similar to what I want/need to build at my house. I'm looking at a 3 bay version 10x8 x 8' high and that will do 5 cords per bay. Do you have more pics of that shed, I'm thinking when I build mine to simply use deck blocks and not but any posts in ground. That way there's no building inspection or anything like that. It won't go anywhere with a few cords in it. Welcome to FHC!!
Well your right. Did a lot of woodwork in my house with air dried cherry. Cutting/milling it it smells real good just like cherry as I remember it. When it warps on the table saw and starts burning it doesn’t smell very good at all.
Thanks for the info I can get you more pics used decking board for the side and floor. Sounds like you are working on your 3 year plan with that shed! I made this one with the possibility to add to the width in the future.
