Thank you everyone that chimed in with info. I decided to buy this probe type temp gauge and I'm glad I did this is the first epa rated stove I've used and there is a big difference in how they burn they seem to be a little more finicky then an old school wood stove witch is what I'm used to. Good thing. btw, I actually find my stove less finicky than the older stoves! Give off a whole lot more heat too along with burning cleaner.
How high up do you install the probe? 18"? Reason I'm asking, I have a double wall telescoping pipe with the 3rd layer higher up than 18" above the stove collar. It's closer to 20" or more... That going to make a difference if I put it up there? I've been warned it's a pain in the a$$ to go through all 3 layers on telescoping pipe.
18.5 it wasn't bad at all. Just be careful when drilling the second larger hole it will want to grab and go all the way through. Sent from my E6910 using Tapatalk
I’ve installed in the overlap section, it’s actually 4 layers. Not difficult at all. Added near zero effort. The problem with it is now the probe holes must all align whenever you collapse the section for removal. Which really shouldn’t be a problem unless you swap stoves or change your hearth. What I’m saying is go ahead and lower it an inch or two to stay out of the overlap but don’t be afraid to put it there if you must. My current probe install is just below the overlap.
