Tomorrow the plan is to drop a couple of Birch in this area I've been hauling sand from.(pic 0132) I'll have the pictures of the trees tomorrow afternoon.

Both trees are damaged up top and once these are gone it will give us access to a small gully and the old sand pit.

Both damaged at the top, do not be too surprised if you find a lot of that tree rotten. I've seen the whole tree rotten but only show it on top. When you start to cut into it, be very careful.

This might even be a good place to practice shoving a tree over with that FEL before trying to cut it.

The two I was going to cut were just fine so I took the two in picture 116050, one had shrooms growing on the top and the other was damaged some. Most of my time was spent cleaning up the mess mother nature created.

I didn't get a ton of wood but from the smell of it, I would say Yellow Birch and some very dry Cedar.

A week ago I had taken some before pictures but must have deleted them from the card.

I couldn't get in behind the trees because of the mess and the hill but even if I could, I wouldn't do it.

This was once a nice little Cedar tree that came down this winter which the deer took care of real quick. Once I get this cleared it will be the start of a new trail at the base of this hill. 100_0256.JPG

Thanks Well Seasoned , I'm thinking that area might have screen tent back there but I still have a chit load of cleanup and chipping to do before that happens.

Birch won't last long in the woods but it's great once split and stacked. Even if you drop a tree and leave the rounds they will only last one summer in the elements.

How did you make out? You certainly cut a lot, very jealous.

Do you leave or chip most of your brush?

I had planned to have more done but haven't been feeling up to snuff, I do have a doctors appointment in June so maybe he can shed some light on why I'm feeling this way.

I was telling Sav the other day that the reason I haven't been doing more with the chainsaw is there are days I don't feel safe running it so I work some on the days I feel good enough.

The good part is we have plenty of wood in our inventory so I won't need to cut.

We usually chip most of it but if we had more open area we would burn more.

After running the garbage to recycle I went to get the push mower at the Wood Chop Shop and then cleaned a bunch of zerts on the backhoe. I also checked the axle oil, transmission fluid, oil and the antifreeze, I added some axle oil on both sides and everything else was good. 100_0263.JPG

I finally grabbed this out of the back gully. I have another half of a days worth of work back in that area before I get in there with the tractor to do some backhoe work.

Nice wood, the easy to work with size. I have gotten into some 2'+ diameter yellow birch that pinched my main saw and I had to rescue with a 34 cc.

The big wood gives you plenty of firewood but it can be a pain but worth the extra effort.

    True.

I like white birch. At least what I have encountered maxes out around 16" unless it is a multiple leader tree. And it's easy to work with. The yellow birch is denser but gets pretty big.

Wish we had yellow birch here. Well, we have 2 or 3 trees but that is all. Lots of white birch though.

We have two topped off Ash in this area going up the hill which I might grab before Wednesday of next week.

I hope that I didn't read the bark wrong (some Basswood in this area too) either way I'll drop them since they will just rot.
