Honey Locust

    Scored some honey locust today. When I cut it, I noticed it smelled very similar to red oak and was very heavy and dense. I've never burned any before so what is the verdict? Good burning wood?

    5 miles South of the "cheddar curtain".
    Creme-de-la-creme of firewood. Very heavy and dense when green. Give it "at least 2 years, preferably 3" to season.

    :popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:.... but until then... yes honey locusts is very good wood... I'll consider it better, just cause it'll dry a bit faster. I personally think it's got a good smell, I get a sweet smell out of it.

    That's good wood. It's my favorite. But s better at 3 than 2. You'll get blue flames too.

    Yeah, it's great wood.

    That's nice and clean. I'll be burning the honey locust I got this winter, in the winter of 18-19.

    I have not burnt it ever in an EPA compliant insert or stove though. Just in the slammer insert and the add on wood furnace.

    Very nice. I've only ever cut honey locust when it's dead and I've always been able to burn it the following winter (I gather in the winter). I put it in at night when I'm not burning black locust and mix it with hackberry and red maple.
