Hey guys I have a 11 year old Harman p43 and I have always had a bunch of fly ash whenever it lights and feeds. I’m curious if there’s a way to knock it down a little. I mean I have been using matras for like 3 years and they are a great pellet but idk if it’s because of the fines but I get some fly ash popping out of the burn pot and going over on the side shelves. I also started using Java flames and they seem to do the same thing. A little less but not much. I have heard of people putting painters tape over the intake in the back, aluminum foil with a hole cut in it and everything. I did test my stove years ago and the combustion blower setting is like spot on with harmans specs so I’m getting the right amount of draft and it’s like spot on with all their numbers. I was just curious if there’s any way to knock the fly ash down a little.

I personally don't worry about it and let the stoves do their thing.

Fine combustible's do that....They flash as soon as they hit the fire and are carried away in the rising gases of combustion....
We burn ground nut shells in our stoves ....Same thing happens.....The auger feeds fuel and when it enters the fire pot the fines flash off.

Also the new fuel coming in will impact the burning material and dislodge the ash that is on the materials that are burning...

This is perfectly normal and just part of what happens in a pellet stove.....
The stoves have ash traps and baffles to collect the ash....
This type of fueled appliance is NEVER going to be like a natural gas stove.....Always some ash coming off.....

    No worries...
