Just like dealing with triple digit heat and humidity, you can deal with the extreme cold. I grew up all over the south from Texas to Virginia and I can tell you that winter is easier than that kind of heat. Proper winter gear, we are out in it all day long, all winter long year after year. When its 100+ heat and 90% + humidity you can't get comfortable, A/C has a hard time. We keep the house 73-75 all winter long, nice and comfortable. Winter gear we are comfortable to be outside all day. Worst I remember working in was in Arizona it was 117*. Ya no thanks, been there did that, I would take our winters over that.
Is it windy there? I don't like the real cold (relative...what we call real cold for here), but when it's cold and then windy sucks azz. But I guess you're mainly out in the cold when you want to be and having fun? Besides doing firewood? No farming, so not having to feed cows and such... Funny you mention the hot and humid. Thick here yesterday. Storm rolled through about dark. Realized when we went to bed it felt warm in here. After a while got up and looked....AC set at 72, said it was 75. Messed with it for a while, went out and found the outside unit buzzing but not running. Tried a few things, got nowhere, pulled the outside disconnect, turned the inside unit off. Called electrician/ hcac guy this am, sent him text, he called, came out pretty quickly. Luckily just the capacitor, 10 minute fix. No AC right now would suck!
We don't get much wind on a normal basis. A storm is rolling through when we do. We are pretty luck wind wise. The next town over is 107 miles, Delta Junction and with the mountains and topography its windy there.
Octopus is good, I just don't like cleaning them, it's a lot of work. They are a neat creature, so I don't mind letting them go.
I knew a Philippine gentleman who took some octopus that we had caught and made a kind of thick salsa with chopped, steamed octo and onions, peppers and other good stuff and spices. We spooned it into a thin, flat fry bread similar to a tortilla to eat it. Very good stuff especially with cold beer. That is the extent of my octopus cuisine knowledge!
I have had similar in Portugal, it had tomato also. I enjoy that, it was served with different European breads. Fantastic, makes me hungry for it now. On the east coast they cook/fry it up and call it Rhode Island style and I approve. Its fantastic as well. Makes me want to keep the next one. I have kept them in the past and just floured it and fried. Its good, just a lot of work to clean it.
