    Is this normal for a pellet stove chimney? Liquid tar?? My wood stove is just powder and almost nothing at that. IMAG0256.jpg

    Hell no that's not normal. It's hard to tell in the pic Pete, what has that tar on it?

    It's from one of the used pipe sections I got. I don't remember who though as 3 or 4 people gave them too me.... The whip is a Gardus soot eater. I couldn't get the whip up the chimney without hitting that pipe and hanging up on it. I ended up running the drill to get through it and it got that mess all over it. Here's the odd part! It washed off like nothing with regular hand soap no degreaser....... Makes me wonder if I got a critter cooked or something? Right now I'm thinking about taking it all apart to see.

    I'm not a pellet stove guy but when you mentioned tar from your pellet stove in the chimney I was curious.
    The pic is a little hard to understand, what is that?

    The oddest part is it's only in that one pipe section?? The others where powder.

    Pete...just to be sure, you don't have anything like that in your stove or heat exchanger?

    Yes, if it were me I'd pull it apart and see what the heck that is.

    I'd pull it apart ans see where it starts or started....Is is easy for you to tear apart?

    No it will have to wait until next weekend I am out of daylight and time today. :( I didn't hit that stuff until half way up though it was all powder below and above it.

    Oh ok, that's nothing then. It looks like your stove has baffles, I would double check to make sure its not loaded up with ash behind there....just in case.

    Is that tar and not wet ash? May be a small leak in that section of pipe. Did you get any rain lately?

    If it was used pipe did you inspect the pipe before installing it?

    You should check your entire system to make certain none of that stuff is inside the exhaust passages of the stove.

    How has the ash color been on the firebox back wall?
