I have to give thanks to my better half she spotted this tree earlier this week. I’ve cut everything I can, and my bar won’t reach and cut all the way thru. I sure am beat after today.
If it is tulip poplar it is a maple and nice firewood. Doesn't look like the poplars around here but that's not here.
Yes it does look much like our ash but it is yellow poplar. The bark looks very much like it but not the wood itself.
What size bar do you have? You only need to reach half way through and you can cut it. You might be amazed at how big of a tree I've cut even with a 16" bar. Yes, even over 32" diameter. It just takes a little longer is all. And btw, I do it all usually from one side rather than cutting from both sides.
The bar on mine is 18 inch. I did exactly what you’re talking about. Also it is poplar it definitely has the green center.
I think you're right, but it burns more like maple. I know its not poplar even though it is a popular name.
Can’t really compare with maple. I never have any Have some red in the stacks for next year. Lots of folks don’t like the tulip much because of its low btu. I’ve found that because of its quick burn rate and no coaling I can create more heat in the house than with oak. Filling the stove three times more but I can keep the stove running at top temps. I’m retired so that’s fine by me.
It is funny you say that because I burn a lot of cottonwood and feel the same way. Because I am retired also.
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone Back in the working days my biggest goal was to have the house semi warm after getting home ten hours later. Things change once you switch over to the dark side
