The little village near me where I have Lions club meeting has a community center.

They had to take down a tree that split in half. Told me to take what I want, and they plan to have another maple on the lawn cut up soon too

I will be there at first light with my trailer. It’s cut shorter than I wish, but it will be an easy score.

If I find out when the tree service is taking down the other, I will ask them to cut in two foot rounds

If it were me doing it, I would ask them to cut it in the longest pieces they could. Reason is twofold. First, if you tell them 24 inches, it will be 20 to 28 inches, lol. Second, I love running a chainsaw, I want to do it! So, if I get long pieces, I can tote it out of there and cut 'em 16 inches, my preference.

    Good score for you!

In my area tree services love to have a reliable person to pick up firewood from jobsites. For years we had a couple of retired guys that would meet us at the days job when we were near completion. The two would always show up a little early and we'd help them load the wood so we didn't have to deal with it. We'd cut the lengths 16 to 18 inches so they didn't have to bother cutting only splitting. They saved us quite a bit of time and they had enough to burn as well as sell.

This answer. I hate odd ball lengths.

I was thinking the longer you wanted it the possibility of milling projects if that’s your thing. Maple gets to be popular for that since it’s not a sticky sap tree and the rare chance its spalted or figured, or even tiger’d.

    Great score!
Ill go along with Yawner & amateur cutter. I hate wrong lengths, prefer 16" , AND cutting it myself.
Bribe them with beer, coffee & donuts. Call and ask ASAP.

I got three truck bed loads today. A local fella who needs wood for his garage. While there the tree crew arrived to do clean up. They were glad we were there. They said they would quarter the bigger parts for us. We are back at it tomorrow.
