Well, so much for the "lightning-struck oak dry enough to burn this year" theory... I thought that sounded a little too hopeful!
I bought a Stihl MS250 this morning, and began cutting up the oak. I started with some little chunks that were in the way. Then the trunk! I love it! The wider cut makes it a lot less likely to get the bar pinched. That was a problem I had with the MS180, so much so, I would pound in a plastic wedge every time I cut a bigger log. It would have taken forever to cut this with the 180. The bigger gas tank is nice. I checked it about the time I would be running dry with the 180, and the 250 was still half full. I cut some grooves for wedging them in half, and went and hopped in the pool.
I'll have to go back and explore, we were in and out quickly because my husband was on his way to work. They were very friendly though, and filled up the saw with gas & oil.
you should when you have time, the chain prices are very good and most everything is in stock ,i really like the building, if you did not make it upstairs you need to next time ,i would guess by next month the big fireplace will be going and you can see the timberframe ,did you get the oil for the double warranty ? yes they are friendly ,do you know who helped you ? anyway best of luck with the saw .
I have to confess, I use the Stihl Motomix for fuel. It's expensive, but I don't cut a lot. I did buy a case of quarts of that, no mention of any extra warranty.
check your receipt ,i think non pro saws have a one year warranty ,with the motomix you bought that qualify's you for the 1 year extension to 2 years ,they may have done it automatically ,but if you use motomix your rich and dont need no stinkin warranty here's the info STIHL Engine Oil - Ultra Limited Warranty Information | STIHL USA
Awesome!!! You will really enjoy that saw. It'll do everything you need. I'm sure a few here will say this but while it's fresh in your memory, get a couple extra chains to have on hand. Also, don't know if you know this but after a chain change, "flip" the bar so it'll wear evenly and lightly file the edges. You'll notice after a while of running the bar will develop a sharp edge of wear. I flip mine every chain swap.
