Days have been getting shorter for 2 months - about an hour less daylight here now than 2 months ago. Thermometer doesn’t know it though as it hit 95 today.
Just a couple of days ago I pointed out to my wife that the Cherry blossom trees my town is known for have really started dropping leaves and I would estimate lost about a third of their foliage. The other trees leaves are just starting to turn that tarnished dusky color. Sycamores are usually next to start dropping their leaves f they haven't already.
I cant wait for fall. It's my favorite season. Some leaves are starting to turn here as well. Just a few here and there.
Fall is my favorite season here too. I used to also really look forward to winter but as I age a bit I no longer look forward to it as I used to. I'm okay until about mid January then I usually start wishing for spring.
In just the last couple of days things have really started to change. Gone (I hope) are the 80° temps. They've been replaced with low 70's and high 40's at night. The roadside ferns are turning brown, the neighbor's maple tree is turning, and the aspen/poplar down the road is completely gold. It is always the first to turn color, almost overnight too... The peak colors in this area are usually the last days of September..
Not much going on in my neck of the woods yet. Just the stinking gypsy moths taking leaves off trees. They seem to be worse this year than in many years.
While out today I noticed some sugar maples changing and the tulip poplars just into our woods are changing too.
We see changes every day here. It is funny though as when we go out we don't see as much color usually as we do here on our own place. And of course, oak woods won't show color yet for sure.
