But I don't know what kind. Found it out by the stacks, but I've never seen a tree on the property with these attached. Any ideas?
Hum... Not a hickory. Not a walnut. Not a butternut. Not a beechnut. I'm stuck Dave. What is the size of this nut?
Hickory nut was my first thought but they are generally smooth. But the inside looks like so many I have had.
Yeah, one easily says hickory at first sight but I've never had a hickory nut look like that. Right shape on the outside but not the inside.
Looks like some kind of walnut just googling some images but am as novice as they come...... Ohio's Black Walnuts: Give this wild food a try (recipes, video)
I'm thinking immature black walnut. Just went our and picked the up along the road. First pic is immature that Stihl has the dried hull on. The second is a more mature with the hull off.
They look like the same nuts that fall off of two trees not too far apart across the sidewalk where I jog every other day. They are green when they fall and slowly turn brown. I've never cut one open. iirc, beechnuts are tan and half that size at best.
I would guess some sort of walnut. Smaller than a normal black walnut but very similar. farmer steve could be right.
