Crazy. That's one of my favorite brands, and I've never seen anything like that before. We have a lot of salt here too. I've been using wix or Napa filters recently as my wife will go to Napa and pick up anything I need. The people at our local store are great.

I’ve never seen it before myself. The paint was bubbled and rusted right where the crimp on the base is. Funny thing is I replaced it with a Purolator Boss filter which is much more substantial.

Was it the white or red version of Purolator? They underwent a color change recently on the entry level filters.

Yes the Boss is a premium filter, not anywhere close to the normal one that a mechanic would have used. I have used a lot of Purolator filters over the years.

Probably a bad spot in the steel from the get-go...seen this on vehicles before, rust bubbles up under the paint in just a couple years, from brand new

I would have never thought it could happen, but I can see the water laying in the base because it is right by the passenger side wheel and of course it’s upside down. Glad I caught it before it fell off on the highway. The car is a 2006 Accord EXL V6 with only 57k miles on it. It was my Father-in-law's and when he passed my wife wanted it so we bought it from the estate. It runs great, but it eats brakes and rotors unless you drive it a lot. Calipers are not the greatest either. It was common on that car, so I knew we’d be doing a lot of brake work. It’s a second car and it’s nice to have when the wife is out. I never liked being stranded at home.

Might try to split some wood today before the rain starts. My arthritis has been not too bad this week, so I got to get things done while I can. Fall seems to be coming in quick.

Well, nothing surprises me any more. Every company wants to use a thinner gauge steel here, less plastic there, less expensive circuits here, etc... So it makes sense that dumb failures like this can and will happen when they never used to before. I've noticed over the years that the steel bodies of filters ( some brands at least) like this have gotten easier to dent just with your hand.

I don't think they make those any more. I recall those, but I would always use the pure One because it wasn't much more plus it was a nice metallic blue.

I think the red filter replaced the white one. I guess my mechanic had a load of the white ones in stock because they are a very common filter for other cars.

It went okay Al. I thought perhaps I could go away from trifocals but no dice. Get glasses in probably a week.
