First thing first, this wood score was possible because of Biddleman . He shared it with me here and I txt’d the ad right away. Got a nice reply and went after work today. I’m so deep in wood from the oak honey hole score, all this will end up heating my parents. This is he pic the landowner sent me.

He said it was oak or walnut and a lot bigger than the pic portrayed. Also told me no use for the wood because they got a pellet stove.

So I get there, very nice guys. I see the log and after the first cut, realize it’s ash. Sweet! Just what my folks need, wood that can be used this winter!

Perfect size for me. Noodle once and it’s manageable.
Here’s the base. We had a small discussion about that. Told him he’s lucky, stuff like that’s can kill people.

Didn’t wanna get caught taking pics of it, so I snapped a quickie. It’s ugly!

So here’s the loaded truck pics.

Not bad! So, the guy walks me around his property showing me some more wood I can have. I bout chit. He’d rather not have any trees in the back yard so he can see the mountain line. I’ll get some more pics tomorrow when I go back with my dad for another load. Some HUGE wood. One dead standing monster. If I can fell it the right way, I’ll take it. Still need some more assessment. It’s not leaning the right way. Then there’s another very large tree that he said “if you want it, take it”.

I tell ya , when it rains it pours. I wasn’t seeking wood because of my honey hole but the wood is finding me! This place is nuts. Wait till I share some pics. o_O

Here’s a barber chaired oak he wants me to try and get. Looks crazy dangerous so not sure on it yet. Said the wind blew it over and I believe him. I saw no saw marks anywhere.

Looks like hoarding wood can be a full time hobby for you. Your head must be spinning...where do you start? Three HUGE scores in a row. I know the feeling. I still have a boatload to cut at my HH
How close to home is this one?

14 miles south. My old boss(the honey hole score) wanted to wait for fall to continue so the timing works out (trying to tell my body that). Lol. What's proving difficult is to keep my chains sharp. I've had loops to swap out and I've touched up a few, but after I got home this evening and showered it was 8:50. Doesn't leave much time for r/r. But you know the saying, make hay when the sun shines.:tractor:

Pace yourself, sounds like this new guy doesn't need to things done in a hurry. You will save him some money.

My experience with ash around me is that the limbs and upper portion of the trunk can be burned right away. The lower parts of the trunks are still a little wet.

Do you have a back up chain for each bar/saw? I have two for the 16" on one saw & the 20" on the other. One chain for 28 & 36 bars. I've been using the 28 on my 460 and really liking it. Did a lot of noodling at the mini HH with gnarly logs. Think I was lazy with the heat.

I agree with Marvin . The big base is usually a bit wet to burn but the littler stuff is ok. This log was dead standing and is ready to go now. If I can remember I’ll grab my moisture meter tomorrow. The bark is just starting to peel on the 2 medium size dead standing trees and I think they'll be good to go as well.

buZZsaw BRAD I kinda hoard chain too. I’ve got so many loops y’all would probably :jaw:. There for a while, Left Coast Supply sold 68dl for $10, 72 for $12 (oregon lgx). So far I've been swapping while cutting the oak so I'm getting to the point of needing to file or I could send them to a friend to grind. Only have 2 loops for the 42" so I'll be using those if we decide to cut down the big trees.

Unreal. Many thanks to you for the share. Me and my folks owe ya a cold one sometime (if you are so inclined).

Good things do happen! Good for you and the landowner. Sounds like a win win situation. If anyone happens to have a tractor, hook to the top of that barber chaired tree and pull it in a circle until is snaps off and falls to the ground.

Sweet score Jason. But no way would I even think of noodling ash. It splits too easy.

It does, but on location and it’s hot out so I take the easy route. Very very rarely do I ever hand split anything.
