I always take a shower when I come in from working in the woods, the only time I didn't, a tick (not deer) got me but everything was fine.

How do you not check yourself for ticks after camping, hiking, whatever? No wonder he found 48 of 'em AFTER he got home from a camping trip.:headbang:
I check myself AS I'm walking outside, after finding them on me from just going 25 feet from the front door.
    Rant over.

I do the same thing every single time and it usually works. However about two weeks ago I was out back, went off the trail looking at a leaning tree that I hope mother nature will take care of, I was walking around in shorts and sneakers and it's my own fault I was a dumba$$. In fact just before I came in the house I had found a tick walking up my leg and picked it off. I recall showering immediately afterwards and scrubbing myself really good cause I knew what I did was not smart. Two days later am on summer vacation and randomly felt what felt like a tick on me and sure enough it was, and dug into my hip.

Between the ticks and mosquitoes I usually wear long pants out back if I am working longs periods of time, even in summer. If I know I am going off the trail to clear more land I spray my boots and bottoms of my pants with this stuff and never have had a problem yet. What usually happens is I wonder out back with no intention of doing much and next thing I know am into it and I am not properly clothed. I am mostly my own worst enemy!

I use Permethrin too, but buy it in a concentrate, then mix with water. A 16 oz. bottle was about $8 at the Amish store about 5 years ago, and I still have about 1/3 bottle left.
Makes several gallons, depending on the mix ratio and goes in a dollar store spray bottle.

I actually have a lint roller in the rhino, if I feel something crawling but can't see it (maybe on my back) the lint roller comes out or especially in the neck area.

I do have my pants tucked inside my boots and the t-shirt inside my pants so I usually don't have any problems. I do have a big basswood that came down last winter across a trail we use for the snowmobiles, it's in high ferns and the deer are usually in the ferns from what I've seen so when I do that job, I'll spray down good.

I despise all blood suckers. I've noticed that it seems like certain people (maybe perhaps because of blood type) attract blood suckers more than others. One thing I've noticed, for me, is when I develop a tan (the deeper the tan the better) it helps prevent the blood suckers from being attracted to me, especially mosquitoes.

Mosquito's love my blood type, but over all the years, I've only had one tick crawling, none biting..

    So far.

Interesting theory about the tan vs less than. My wife is always more than than I am. Even when I'm nice and tan, she's almost twice as dark as I am, from about the same amount of sun time. Now she attracts mosquitoes when they don't even bother me. So I think there's something about that certain people attract more biters.

what blood type are you. I am A-. My wife, no idea what blood type she is. She hates needles. I hate that I don't know her blood type as it's important.

Yeah, I still get bit by mosquitoes but it seems less when I develop a tan. Ticks, I have had my share of them, but I am in in the woods a lot especially during hunting season. It seems that some of my hunting buddies get ticks a lot, more often than I do. I have found deer ticks on my clothing but never embedded. I have had quite a few "wood" ticks embedded but usually during fishing in the spring. Most of my hunting buddies (75% of them) have gotten Lyme disease from deer ticks.
There are plenty of diseases to get from ticks plus now we have West Nile Disease from the mosquitoes.

The "tan" theory may only apply to those of a certain blood type. Or maybe only applies to me. It has just been my experience. Maybe it has to do with blood type, what you eat, how much you sweat, how much CO2 you expire, etc .

    I agree.

I searched permethrin before making a new post. One my commanders father came down with an affliction that sent him to the hospital for a couple weeks. It was a tick reaction.

we talked about permethrin and I have been treating my work clothes, boots, and even the bed clothes at our cabin. Sprayed down our deck, and the walk to the boat dock.

Sam said his dad is back home and improving. Sam didn’t treat his clothes last week and worked a fence line a few hours. Bunch of ticks. Treated his clothes and boots and worked last Sunday for 8 hours, along a fence line. No ticks. I am a believer.

IME regardless of blood type mosquitos seem to bother women more than men. As for ticks theres been a lot more on me than my wife. But that could be because I go closer to the denser forest than she does. Even when we are both camping
