jo191145 what town was that 4000 cords in? I dont have room for more and still have the big honey hole to cut. Havent been there since end of June. Stopped by late today and wood is still there as i left it. Im guessing 40 PU fulls so 20 cord there yet!
Poor 460, if it needs the equivalent of a chainsaw’s old folks home, I'd go real easy on it. Nice work as always Brad. I’ve been wondering if you could save up for an acre of empty land that you could start staging your wood stash on. You don’t sell wood full time, right? I would think having it properly seasoned could give you an edge on any local competition. My dad always said that if you do what you love, then success will come easy.
Southbury. Advertised as 8 acres of wood. Something to do with the tornado. Pics showed the normal tangled blow downs but also showed what appeared to be a storage lot full of just trunks. Maybe a busy tree guy clearing storm damage and running out of storage space. Seems desperate when they use the phrase “Please just come take it” LOL Did the tornados touch down in Southbury?
I think so. Im wondering if its the same guy that answered my Craigs List want add for firewood last Winter. This old guy calls me three times. My add was the same and i just relisted it. Southbury is 45 minutes from me.
After working in this heat, i need the equivalent of an old folks home! LOL!!! The ax keep going and hit it. Im rather manic when i work and with some heat exhaustion i can get careless so 460 was the victim. Saw okay and easy used part to find if i decide to replace it. I dont sell it full time. For the amount of hard work involved and if i calculated my hourly rate id just assume doing roofing full time as before. In theory that sounds great, but land is pricey around here if you can find a decent lot. In reality id rather do chain saw work on a regular basis. I do some, but few and far between. Word of mouth advertising. A lot more money cutting wood than selling it. Most tree services dont want the wood they cut. Too much work and logistics (we know all about this) with moving and storage. If i did get a lot id build a small (less than 1000 sq.ft.) house for myself. Lots of woods of course.
Be careful out there with running saw while fatigued. It real easy to “keep going” while your already been at it for a while (probably part of the wood cutting compulsion that a lot of us have), but could be bad if it lead to injury. I bet making money making firewood will become a lot more comfortable come October. Just watched the CT news and dew points are supposed to dip down in the 40’s by friday, which is a far cry from this humidity we have at the moment.
And build that house on stilts so you can stack wood under it. Hahahaha Sorry, thought you were relatively close to Southbury. You need one of these.
What it means is it’s an hour drive for me. Considering Brad lives 45 minutes from me in that general direction there’s a whole lot of dilly dallying going on over there somewhere. Someone needs a better loud pedal. LOL
It just dented and slightly cracked the magnesium. Works fine yet. PLEASE dont put it on your brick oven pizza's
Got the PU back today. Moved a half cord load of red oak to my friends across the street. Picked up a bunch of pallets too. The side stacks were already there. Decided to used pallets sides for better air flow. Tight squeeze. Almost had to grease the sides to back in! I couldnt believe i actually stacked myself into a corner. Had to get in the bed of the PU and climb out! Maybe an hour to load and stack. It went quick as i was able to get close both times. A face cord for each new row. Ill move another half cord of oak tomorrow.
